Can I Manage my Back Pain Myself? And the Tips to Know if it’s Time to Book
The most important question that we’ll come back to in a bit:
“When is the right time to see a Physio, Sports Therapist, Osteopath for an Assessment?”
A lot of us have been in this situation before. Suffering with Back Pain, Sciatica, Muscle Spasms, Disc Problems etc. The first contact in most cases is with the GP, in which the usual phrases come out:
“Rest it”
“Pain Killers”
“There’s Nothing that can be done”
Incredibly frustrating!
So, what do we do? Well, we try and get on with it! Continue to go into the office. Or head onto site at work and day after day the pain lingers. We must do this, because if we don’t work, we can’t live.
But now we come to the important part!
What if the pain is too much to go to the gym? Or to get out running? Or to kick a football around the garden with the kids? If the pains are stopping us from living and enjoying, then the working becomes irrelevant!
So remember that question from earlier?
“When is the right time to see a Physio, Sports Therapist, Osteopath for an Assessment?”
If we cannot enjoy life due to Back Pain, then now is the time to book in for an Assessment and get the help you need.
In a perfect world, we always want to deal with a problem or pain before it becomes a problem. But it’s not always as easy as that. And we definitely don’t live in a perfect world!
It’s important to note exactly what sort of Back Pain you’re suffering with. The 3 most common types of injury we see in clinic are Acute Back Pain, Sub-Acute Back Pain, and Chronic Back Pain Is it a more recent incident, lifted something awkwardly (Acute)? Have you left it for a while hoping it would settle on it’s own and it just won’t go away (Sub-Acute)? Or is it more of a long-term issue that you’ve had for years (Chronic)?
The Acute Pains can be the worst, and can leave you feeling almost useless! These can come in the form of Sciatica, Disc Bulges and Muscle Spasms. When these happen, the sooner you seek expert advice, the better. This is to speed up the healing process and mean you get the best advice and treatment.
With Chronic Pains, like I mentioned earlier the pains are stopping you from doing what you enjoy, and you begin to learn how to deal with the pain, rather than actually get rid of it. This is when it’s time to get some expert help and advice. Sometimes the longer we leave it, the longer it can take for these things to settle. So again the quicker we can help get you back out having a kick around the garden with the kids, or just simply enjoying nice walks or time with family and friends without pain, then the world is a much happier place!
For any more advice or questions, feel free to contact the clinic and I’d be happy to help with any questions 😊
